The United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) is the oldest patriotic organization in the United States. It was officially organized in 1894 as the outgrowth of local and state societies to honor and serve the veterans of the Confederate States of America, and to perpetuate the memory of those who gave their lives. Today's UDC members continue the important mission of honoring, protecting, and preserving their Confederate heritage to ensure that the noble sacrifices made by their ancestors during the War Between the States are not forgotten. |
The Fort Fisher Chapter of the UDC was established in October 1962 and has flourished as a small but active Chapter in District VII, North Carolina Division of the General Organization of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The strategic importance, heroic defense, and fall of Fort Fisher were determining factors for the establishment of the Fort Fisher Chapter. For over four decades its members have worked tirelessly to support and help preserve Fort Fisher, North Carolina's most visited state historic site, and to fulfill the objectives of the General Organization. |
Any woman no less than 16 years of age who is a blood descendant, lineal (direct) or collateral (niece), of a Confederate veteran who served honorably in the Army, Navy or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America, or gave Material Aid to the Cause, may pursue membership in the UDC. If you are interested in membership with the Fort Fisher Chapter, please contact our registrar. |

The emblem of the UDC is a cotton boll superimposed on a five-pointed star . At the tips of the points are the words of the motto: LOVE, LIVE, PRAY, THINK, DARE |
